Last month an owner told me his marketing was not working.

I asked what he was doing. He said he had a website, he posted on Facebook, and he tried Google Ads once. Two 172s and a Warrior on the ramp. One full-time CFI who just scheduled a regional interview.

He was not wrong about any of it. He was doing three real jobs. He just did not know there were eight.

On Thursday, September 24 at 2:00 PM Central we are walking all eight, live and free. Here is what is on the list, and why three good ones still leave your ramp quiet.

Nobody Ever Handed You the List

There is no checkride for marketing.

You learned to fly with a syllabus. Someone told you what a stage check was before you took one. Nobody does that for the thing that fills your schedule. So you find out what the jobs are by failing at the ones you did not know existed.

That is not a knock on you. You were handed tools that were never built for flight schools.

The agency you hired serves dentists on Monday and flight schools on Friday. They ran the same playbook on both. They did not know a discovery flight from a stage check, and they never asked. Then they sent a report about impressions while your ramp sat quiet on a Saturday.

You were not doing marketing wrong. You were doing three eighths of it, alone, at 10pm, after a twelve hour day.

Why Three Good Jobs Still Gets You Nothing

Here is the part that costs owners a year.

The eight jobs are not additive. They are sequential. Each one hands off to the next, and a break anywhere drops everything upstream of it.

Rank number one with a website that does not convert, and you bought traffic that bounces. Build a beautiful site nobody can find, and you built a store in a field. Run ads into a follow-up process that does not exist, and you paid for leads so they could go cold.

A chain does not care how strong your three good links are.

This is why the fixes you already tried did not hold. The nephew running Instagram was doing job seven with jobs two and eight broken. The boosted post was job six without tracking. The $99 website was job two with nobody doing job three. Each one was real work. None of them had anywhere to hand off to.

Meanwhile the schedule board picks up white space where students used to be. The 172 sits fueled in the sun on a Saturday. And your best CFI starts checking hiring minimums, because the hours dried up.

That is the whole reason we built this session. You will leave with the complete list, whether you ever talk to us or not.

The Eight Jobs, Named

Here they are. We walk each one in full on the call.

  1. Decide what you are selling, and who you are selling it to. Career track and weekend flyer are two different buyers. Most homepages talk to neither.
  2. Turn a stranger into an inquiry. What you train, what it costs, what happens next. Above the fold, on a phone, on cell data.
  3. Show up when someone types “flight school near me.” Keyword research into what student pilots type, not what you would type. A page for every certificate and every town you draw from.
  4. Exist correctly in fifty places you have never logged into. Google Business Profile, aviation directories, citations that match, and a system that asks for reviews instead of hoping.
  5. Get cited when someone asks an AI. Schema, page structure, and citation tracking. There is no page two to be on.
  6. Buy attention on purpose. Account structure, negative keywords, call tracking, and a landing page built for the ad instead of your homepage.
  7. Be worth choosing once they are already looking. Video, student stories, real faces. Not stock photos of a Cirrus you do not own.
  8. Answer in minutes, and stay in touch for months. Missed call text back, nurture that runs while you are flying, and a pipeline that does not live in someone’s memory.

Every job gets the same four questions on the call. What the job is. What doing it well actually takes. What it looks like when it is missing. Then a ten second test you run on your own school while we talk.

Bring your phone. You are going to use it.

Two of the tests, free, right now.

Job one. Open your homepage. Cover your logo with your thumb. Could that page belong to any other school in your state? If yes, job one is not done.

Job five. Ask ChatGPT for the best flight school in your city. Read what comes back. Are you in the answer?

That second one takes about eight seconds and it changes the mood of most owners who try it.

What It Looks Like When All Eight Run

Hawkins Flight Academy sits outside St. Louis. Matt Wilkins co-founded it and built the first website himself.

When they started, they had no trackable leads. No campaigns. Nothing indexed worth finding. No way to tell whether anything was working, because nothing was measuring.

In six months, all eight jobs running together produced 348 trackable leads. That is 121 form fills and 227 phone calls. Blended cost per lead landed at $47.90, and $33.78 from ads alone. Their average search position moved from 40.9 to 13.0. Month six alone brought 71 leads.

Total investment was $16,668. Nine thousand in fees and $7,668 in ad spend.

Here is the honest part. Month one produced almost nothing. The line does not move until month three, because job three is the slowest job on the list. Their site performance score went from 64 to 70, which is a small move, and we are still working on it.

Matt said something on camera that stuck with us.

“There is a whole amount of time saved because I am not having to explain to a marketing company what my product is.”

Matt did the work. He kept flying, kept teaching, kept the doors open. We showed him the list and flew right seat.

Down in Lanett, Alabama, Matthew at Blue Skies Above runs a school nowhere near a major metro. After a year of the same eight jobs, he put it plainly.

“I was scrounging for students and now I have a waitlist 10, 11 long. We’re now talking about adding another plane to our fleet.”

Questions Owners Ask Before Registering

Is this a sales pitch? No. We teach all eight jobs in full and hold nothing back. If you take the list and run it yourself, that is a good outcome and we will say so on the call.

How long is it, and do I have to be there live? Sixty minutes, with open questions after. We send the replay to everyone who registers. The live tests only work if you are there with your phone, though, and those are the best part.

Is this for a school my size? Yes. We cover what the eight jobs look like at one to three aircraft, at four to ten, and at ten or more. The jobs are identical at every size. What changes is who is failing at them and why.

I already have someone doing marketing. Is this useful? Probably more useful. Ask them which of the eight they own and which are unowned. That conversation is worth more than the webinar.

Come Get the List

That owner with the two 172s is still running his school. He still works a twelve hour day. The difference is that the laptop closes at a reasonable hour now, because he stopped guessing at eight jobs and started running a plan built for them.

He is not special. He just got handed the list.

You will leave this session with the same eight jobs, the tests to grade your own school, and an honest answer about what each one costs in hours and money. No pitch, no pressure, and the list is yours whether we ever speak again.
